It’s true that Cannes reputation as a place of great cultural heartiness is most often exceeded by its fame as a world famed beach resort and for its statute in the film industry. However, once in Cannes, tourists should not overlook the several museums and galleries which add a supplementary touch of style and elegance and cultural significance to this French Riviera city.
For instance, the Maritime Museum (Le Suquet, Cannes, France), locally referred to as the Musée de la Mer, is rightfully called a major hotspot since it is located in a former fort which is said to have been the place that inspired Alexander Dumas to conceive the jail where the famous Man in the Iron Mask used to be confined. The fort itself aside (parts of it being worth visiting since it speaks about the past ages of the place) the museum presents a collection of wrecks raging from Roman to more recent times. The occasional photography displays add up to the overall value of the Museum.
