Thus, being in Cannes and disregarding a possible visit to Marineland in Antibes is a definite loss. Tourists should keep in mind that Antibes is only 11 kilometers from Cannes, which is more than incentive for making a short trip to this resort. Marineland is by far one the most significant and popular attractions in Antibes, its uniqueness residing in the fact that it is the only animal exhibition park in France taking pride in hosting two aquatic mammals species, that is, killer whales and dolphins. Besides killer whales and dolphins, the park displays other species, ranging from penguins, seals and sea lions, to birds of pray or aquatic birds.
Though not as tangible or manageable, sharks and manta rays can be admired in the so called shark tunnel, and a further attraction of Marineland is represented by the tropical aquarium gallery substantiating the beauty of the coral reefs’ world. Visitors can attend the killer whales show carefully supervised and directed by their tamers, or, on the other hand, they may prefer to enjoy the lovely dolphin shows or even meet them, as it were, face to face, just as they can do with the sea lions. Birds of pray shows are equally inviting for those who want to exhaustively explore the generous fauna display of Marineland, and a more instructive hotspot in the park is represented by the Poype Museum, which exhibits the partial work of Admiral de la Poype de Vertrieux – the founder of Marineland – in view of sensitizing visitors to what the immense world of oceans and their discovery in time mean. As a plus, the park makes available a restaurant and several snack selling stalls, and it also hosts a series of events, such as birthday parties, private and corporate events or congresses.
